How can a home business accept debit / credit cards? I am trying to start up a home business selling customized, beaded wedding glasses. Since these are special orders, I want to be able to secure payment before starting the work. How can I be able to accept credit and / or debit cards?

imisidro replied: "You get what is called a merchant account. A merchant account allows you to accept credit or debit card, and you wll be given the card swiping machine. You can choose to have the customer swipe it in the machine, or you can input the credit card information of the buyer (called "card not present" transaction -- typically higher fees) The best rates often are those from the bank. However, they are more difficult to get. They look at your credit history. Some banks will even ask for a business plan Costco also offers good rates for their merchant account. If you can't get one from a bank, check out Costco's rates (especially if you are an executive member) There are also some merchant account providers such as CardService International that you can check out"

APMilano replied: "There are a bunch of companies that offer this service via an easy, Internet interface. So you can take the credit card info, log into your account, enter the credit card info, validate the number and amount, and make the transaction. These are called "merchant accounts" and there are many out there so you need to comparison shop. One issue is that it will take some paper work and bank account confirmation to go through. They have a risk of you charging money, getting that money on the whole thing turning out to be a fraud. My point is that it will take time and some paperwork to get it setup and running."

Sharon F replied: "Yahoo offers small business a merchant services and it cost so much less. Read this for yourself and call around to other merchants; i'm sure you will end up using Yahoo's You can also accept paypal with this service"

can i become a verified ebay member when i do not have credit/debit cards but do have a bank account? what is the process to become a verified ebay member to buy and sell on ebay when i do not have any debit/credit cards?

arthur s replied: "you cant become a verified paypal user, some people only except paypal,, be careful of ebay though, some things are cheaper at walmart, its the shipping that kills you,, beware of the shipping"

imisidro replied: "YES you can. eBay allows payment by cheque or money order. Here is what eBay says on the acceptable modes of payments for selling fees ------------------------------------------------------- Choose from a variety of methods to pay your seller’s fees. PayPal: PayPal is a safe, convenient way to automatically pay your eBay fees. When you sign up for monthly PayPal payments, your invoice amount will automatically be deducted from your PayPal account each month. Or you can make a one-time payment using your PayPal account. Direct Pay: With Direct Pay, eBay will automatically deduct your monthly invoice amount from your checking account. This option is available to sellers billed in U.S. dollars with U.S. bank accounts. To sign up for Direct Pay , you will need to provide eBay with your bank account and routing numbers which are shown on the bottom of your checks. Or you can make a one-time Direct Pay payment from your checking account. Your payment will be posted to your eBay account within two business days. Credit card on file: Each month, eBay will automatically charge your invoice amount directly to your credit card you place on file (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover Card). Your credit card will normally be charged five to seven days after you receive your invoice. You can also make a one-time payment with your credit card. Check and money order: After they are received, check and money order payments take seven to 10 business days to process and post to your account. Please remember that this does not include weekends and holidays. Note: When making payment by check or money order, you must submit a payment coupon along with your check or money order and mail it to the address on the coupon. ------------------------------------------------------- If you simply want to buy and not sell, here is ebay's registration information"

How do you transfer a credit between credit/debit cards online? I have a friend in Vietnam who has a Visa debit card. I would like to be able to quickly send a payment to that card online using my Visa credit card.

Does anyone still carry cash in thier wallets? Or have most people switched over to credit/debit cards? When I need money I go to the bank or ATM and withdraw cash. I really like the feel of cash leaving my hands and get to feel the money being spent. Do you enjoy having money in your wallet? I do! Debit cards and credit cards aren't real money to me. When you hand over paper dollar bills it may hurt if you are buying something too expensive. When you use plastic you don't feel any pain when spending money.

bm replied: "1000 in cash, rest in cards. Don't really use the cash unless they only take cash."

How much cash, credit/debit cards for travel to Germany? I'm visiting Germany for the first time for a week. I'm wondering how much cash I should plan to bring, and whether it's less costly to use a credit card or a debit card for other purchases while I'm there.

bloemkool replied: "when you travel in Europe you don't need a lot of cash. If you have a Visa or Master Card, you easly can take some cash from cash dispensers near the banks. You find almost one on every corner of the street. You don't need dollars, and the value of the dollar against the euro is still decreasing. Nice holiday"

Why doesn't Canada have debit cards that double as credit cards like they do in the United States? I know they don't have them so don't say they do. Do you know any other countries that also have combined debit and credit cards?

gpatrick900 replied: "Actual, I read on another web site some independent Canadian banks near the Canadian/US border may have those type of check cards. Intrac cards can be used a merchants who take Nyce network. (May need to be activated by your bank) Even if the merchant takes another network. It still should work. They have gateways to accept each others cards. You would choose debit/atm and enter your pin. I read on another web site there use to be a dual use debit and credit card in one county but they eliminated that to stop the confusion because of the new types of debit cards. France has a deferred debit card. They don't double as credit cards in the U.S. even through they can work like a credit card. In the U.S. are debit cards with either MasterCard or Visa symbols work like this: If you choose ATM/debit button at the merchant. You would enter your pin. Some banks and merchants charge for the pin method. If you choose Credit button. You would sign for your purchase (some places you don't have to sign for it). You can also use them at atms by entering a Pin. You can also get a Checking account cash advance at banks if they take Visa or MasterCard. You can use them online or by phone at merchants that take MasterCard or Visa. You can also use them at merchants who take MasterCard or Visa but do not have a point of sale terminal. All methods come out your checking account right away."

Restrictions on Credit and Debit cards by Issuing Agency? I have a question that I can't find the answer to, and Google is not being particularly helpful (maybe I'm just not good at searching). The question goes as follows: What restrictions do issuing agencies place on the use of debit and credit cards? Would there be some sort of ceiling limit on transactions? Restrictions on what you can buy with it? Normally I wouldn't ask but I'm stuck and desperate :/ Please help!

robert h replied: "with a debit card you should only be able to use what is in your account but i doubt if there would be a restriction on how many times you could use it - your credit card limit will be based on your credit rating - but will increase depending on how you run your account."

Rawrr replied: "There are quite alot of limits, all depend on the issuer and most banks wont tell you what the limits are. But there can be limits on the amount of transactions you make in one day and in the month, the amount of ATM transactions you do in one day and the month. Also limits on how much you can spend on one transaction, in one day and in the month etc. The limit on how much you spend on one txn and in one day can depend on the card you have and whether you are with the merchant or if its a mail order transaction (over phone or net) The daily limit for nearly all cards from a ATM machine is £300. Credit cards you can normally only take 50% of your credit limit out as cash in each month, e.g if your limit is £1000, once you take out £500 in cash you cant take any more cash out until the new month."

something stinks replied: "Every bank has their own rules. Some limit the amount cash advances at casinos and some will freeze your card if you have too many $2 transactions because it looks like you are living off of your card limit. If you have a debit card and its not working - could you be out of money? You can't spend what you don't have in the bank. My niece doesn't keep track of her account and spends $2 more than she has in the bank and gets hit with $50 overdraft charges."

Does Bank of America still offer those tiny little debit/credit cards? I had a checking account with bank of America several years ago, and they offered these very small debit/credit cards, they are less than half the size of a regular credit card. Do they still have these?

Esduds E replied: "Check their website"

*Sweet Pink* replied: "Yes they do. I have one."

William R replied: "no idea. but that sunds pretty cool"

Babs replied: "No. If you want one you have to own a business and buy them in bulk."

iditmore replied: "no they don't make those any more but my dad has the regular debit/credit card."

jillolli replied: "If your talking about the small ones that go on a key chain then yes, they do. My son just got his first Credit card from BofA and they sent him a regular and a mini card without him having to ask. If you want one just ask at your local bank (if you have an account) and it should take about a week to get it (it took less then that to replace my debit card recently)"

What are some good prepaid debit cards/credit cards that you can use online? Ok, Im sure everyone knows about the prepaid debit cards and credit cards that act as a real credit card, just they are prepaid. I am looking for one that: 1. You can use online
2. Has a 3 digit security code (like for online)
3. can be put into my name 4. you can buy/pay for it it through paypal I have almost $200 in my paypal account, I need to get it out. Also, I bought my mom a computer for her birthday and am trying to help her use it, she wont use her credit card online as she is afraid of being scammed, so I can just give her a prepaid debit card, kill two birds with one stone :)

Cornelius replied: "Try the All-Access card by NetSpend: It's a prepaid Visa debit card so you can use it online just like a credit or bank debit card and is personalized (has your name embossed on it). You can order it without paying anything up front and transfer funds from your paypal account to the All-Access card using a routing number that you get on their website. You can do this even before the card arrives in the mail."

What's the best way to pay for things while traveling to Europe? Traveler's cheques, debit or credit cards? I'm going to be in Europe for over a month and I don't want to get fee'd to death with every transaction. Should I just pay the 1% fee for travelers cheques and avoid the debit/credit card transaction and foreign conversion fee's? Any advice is appreciated!

arch0049 replied: "Depends what country and the size of the city and neighborhood. In some less affluent places the merchants would really prefer local currency or euros."
